Usercentrics - PUBLIC

What is the difference between implicit and explicit?

Explicit means that the user has actively taken a consent decision and interacted with the CMP.

E.g. a user clicked on the “Accept All” button.

Implicit means that there hasn’t been an active decision or action by the user regarding the consent. E.g. if the user doesn’t interact with the CMP at all, she implicitly opts out of all non-essential services and implicitly opts in to all essential services.

Implicit consents occur directly with the page impression. All services that are set to “accepted by default” will receive an implicit opt-in, all others an implicit opt-out. If your visitor now clicks a button in the CMP like “accept all” to save their consent, we’ll track the explicit consents that are now generated. Those replace the implicit consents. Only the explicit consents will show up in your reporting.
