Usercentrics - PUBLIC

What is the difference between implicit and explicit?

Explicit means that the user has actively taken a consent decision and interacted with the CMP.

E.g. a user clicked on the ā€œAccept Allā€ button.

Implicit means that there hasnā€™t been an active decision or action by the user regarding the consent. E.g. if the user doesnā€™t interact with the CMP at all, she implicitly opts out of all non-essential services and implicitly opts in to all essential services.

Implicit consents occur directly with the page impression. All services that are set to ā€œaccepted by defaultā€ will receive an implicit opt-in, all others an implicit opt-out. If your visitor now clicks a button in the CMP like ā€œaccept allā€ to save their consent, weā€™ll track the explicit consents that are now generated. Those replace the implicit consents. Only the explicit consents will show up in your reporting.
