How do I Implement Usercentrics CMP V3 via Google Tag Manager template?

Websites using Google Tag Manager (GTM) can deploy the Usercentrics CMP by following these step-by-step instructions.

Step 1: Create the tag using the Usercentrics CMP template

In your GTM container, go to 'Templates' > 'Tag Templates,' then 'Search Gallery' and select 'Usercentrics CMP' from the community tag templates. Click 'Add to workspace' and confirm by clicking 'Add.'

Select the version of the UC template to V3:

Create a new tag, click 'New,' select 'Tag Configuration,' and choose 'Usercentrics CMP' from the list of tag types.

Step 2: Configure the newly created tag

Now, you need to configure the newly created tag.

General configuration

  • On the 'Settings Id' field, please insert your settings-id.

  • On the 'Banner version', select the UC version to V3

  • On the ‘Default Language' field, please leave it as it is or set the desired default language, for example 'de' for German.

  • On the 'Enable Transparency & Consent Framework 2.0 (TCF)' field, check the checkbox if you want to enable TCF 2.0.

  • On the 'Enable Accelerated Mobile Pages Framework (AMP)' field, check the checkbox if you want to enable AMP.

  • On the 'Wait for update' field, please input how many miliseconds to wait before firing tags waiting for consent, for more information please check asynchronous tools.

Defining the default consent state

To adjust the default measurement capabilities, set the default values for the command to run on every page of your site before any commands that send measurement data (such as config or event). For more information please check Adjust Tag Behavior.

A default consent state of 'denied' will apply until the user has submitted a consent. You can change this default behaviour and add different default consent states for users in different geographical regions by clicking "Add region" under the "Default Consent State" section.

In the example above, a global (blank region value) default consent state of 'denied' is defined for all users along with a specific 'granted'-state for users from the United States (US).

⚠️ Please use ISO 3166-2 country codes for region values. For the United States it is also possible to use state-specific regions, e.g. "US-CA" for California. If a specific default consent state applies to multiple regions, you can add a comma-separated string of regions to the Region field.

Step 3: Save the tag

Choose "Consent initialization - All pages" as trigger and apply a name to your tag at the top of the configuration page, e.g. "Usercentrics". Click "Save" to create the tag.

Now please follow the additional steps from our documentation to adjust the tags in your Google Tag Manager in order to block them until consent was given by the users: GTM Implementation Guide.
